Choose something the learner can do afterward
Make the objective observable: complete a setup, identify a part or follow a procedure. Select a short segment that shows the complete action. A single focused lesson is easier to check and update than a condensed recording that tries to cover an entire course.
Plan a short lesson
| Stage | Editing direction | Acceptance check |
|---|---|---|
| Orient | Show the task and what the learner needs | The learner knows whether this lesson applies. |
| Demonstrate | Preserve the action and its correct order | Essential steps remain visible. |
| Explain | Retain the instructor’s relevant explanation | The words still match the action. |
| Recap | Hold on the completed result | The learner can recognize a successful outcome. |
Try a microlearning brief
Create a 45-second landscape lesson from the demonstration and instructor clips. Teach one task: the procedure described in my notes. Keep all required steps in order, use close-ups where the action is hard to see and add captions to the original explanation. End on the completed result with the exact recap text provided. Do not remove a safety instruction to meet the target duration; flag the need for a longer lesson instead.
Have the subject expert check the edit
Review meaning and procedure before judging the visual polish. A shortened pause may be harmless; a missing prerequisite may change the task. If the required sequence cannot fit comfortably, divide it into separate lessons with their own briefs.
Deliver through your learning system
Download the approved MP4 and use the platform that manages learner access, assessments and completion records. Shorty’s edited video is a media asset; it is not a SCORM package, quiz engine or learning-management system.
How to evaluate the workflow
Run one representative edit through its first feedback round before planning a larger rollout. Save the brief, the first output, the revision and the approved file. Record upload time, processing time, review effort and charged credits separately. A fast first render is only useful if the result can be approved.
The workflow below is a suggested use of Shorty, not a customer case study. The linked browser test shows a real product edit and timing revision; it does not establish results for every type of team or footage.
