Shorty vs VEED 2026: Features and Pricing Compared

Shorty vs VEED diagram: VEED applies one-click AI tools such as Magic Cut, subtitles and clean audio to a timeline you edit, from $19 a month per editor with a free plan; Shorty turns many clips and a brief into one finished edit, from $19 a month with no free plan

Shorty is an AI video editor that turns your own clips into a finished short video from a written brief or a video you want to copy. VEED is a browser video editor with a timeline, text-based editing, a recorder and a long list of one-click AI tools: Magic Cut, auto subtitles in 125+ languages, AI B-roll, clean audio, eye contact, dubbing and AI avatars. There is no single best one. There is a best one per job: VEED when you want to edit by hand in the browser, record yourself, subtitle or translate a video, or start free; Shorty for Reels, TikToks and Shorts cut from several clips, especially when you have a reference. Paid plans start at $19 a month on Shorty ($13 billed annually) and, on VEED’s video editor page, $19 a month ($9 billed yearly) per editor, and VEED also has a free plan.

What Is the Difference Between Shorty and VEED?

Shorty starts from the video you want. You add clips or photos, then describe the result or upload a reference, and Shorty plans the cut, picks the shots, adds captions, music and effects, and renders an MP4. You change it by asking: select a title or a moment in the preview and say what should happen.

VEED starts from a project in the browser. You upload footage or record your screen and camera, then edit on a timeline or by editing the transcript like a document. Its AI tools each do one job well: Magic Cut trims pauses, filler words, silences and repeated mistakes in one click; Auto Edits adds subtitles, cleans the audio and inserts B-roll; and there are tools for eye contact, background removal, clips from long videos, translation and dubbing.

Both reach past their core. Shorty grades color, tracks objects and narrates with an AI voiceover; VEED records, translates and dubs, generates video with models such as Google Veo 3.1, makes AI avatar videos and lets a team leave timestamped feedback. The difference is where each one is strongest.

How Does Editing Work on Each Platform?

On Shorty, you choose how to direct the edit. A brief can be one sentence or a paragraph: the length, the hook, where the product shows up, the captions you want or don’t. A reference is a video you like, uploaded or picked from Discovery, and Shorty rebuilds its rhythm, shot order, text and color with your own footage. You can use both in the same edit.

Shorty then watches every clip, picks the moments, cuts them to the music, reframes them for the format, and adds captions, titles and sound effects. The finished edit opens in a preview. Click the title and write “make it red”, or ask for a darker grade, a shorter hook or more clips, and Shorty makes a new version without starting over.

On VEED, you edit and the AI tools do the slow parts. Select the talking clip and click Magic Cut, and VEED removes pauses, filler words, silences and repeated mistakes and joins what is left; every cut stays editable on the timeline. Cut more by deleting words from the transcript. Magic B-Roll adds images and clips based on what is said, and you can replace any of them with your own footage or stock. Auto subtitles come next, with fonts, colors and animated styles.

VEED leaves you in a project you can keep editing by hand, share for feedback and subtitle in other languages. Shorty hands you a rendered video and keeps the changes in the conversation.

How Do You Make the Same Video on Each Platform?

The task: a 30-second vertical video for Reels and TikTok, made from your own footage: one three-minute talking-to-camera take and five 20-second B-roll clips of the product, with captions and music. Then one change to the finished video, and a subtitle file.

Which One Gets There Faster?

Shorty gets from six clips to a finished 30-second edit in fewer steps, because the story, the B-roll placement, the framing and the captions arrive together. VEED makes the talking take fast: Magic Cut and transcript editing turn three minutes of speech into a clean 30 seconds in a few clicks, and subtitles take one more. What stays manual is the part across clips: choosing which B-roll goes where and framing each shot. In exchange, every cut stays in your hands. If your video is mostly one person talking, or you want to edit it yourself, VEED is the shorter path. If you want the edit done from several clips, Shorty is.

Steps are based on each product’s documentation and help pages, checked October 2026.

How Much Does the Same Video Cost?

Shorty charges credits for the AI edit, publishes what an edit uses on average and shows the estimate before you start. VEED charges a plan price per editor. Its pricing table lists Magic Cut, filler-word removal, clean audio, AI B-roll and Auto Edits as included on paid plans, with a one-time try on Free, and spends its AI credits on generations such as AI video, images, voice and subtitle translation. So these are the published numbers, not a bill. Plans used for the estimate, monthly billing:

Retries, Top-Ups and Leftovers

AI edits sometimes take another try, so plan for revisions. On Shorty, a revision uses credits and a failed edit returns its credits. On VEED, Magic Cut and AI B-roll results stay editable, so you fix them by hand or regenerate a single B-roll clip.

VEED’s AI credits refresh in full when your subscription renews and do not carry over; for more, you move to a higher credit allowance, which works like an upgrade. Translation minutes don’t roll over either. Upgrading starts a new billing period, with unused time on the old plan deducted. Plans are charged per editor, so a second person in the workspace is a second seat. On Shorty, a bigger plan starts the day you switch and its credits are added on top of yours.

Prices were checked on 28 October 2026 on VEED’s pricing page, product pages and help center and on Shorty’s pricing page, at monthly rates before tax. VEED’s pricing page shows prices in your local currency, so its US prices here come from its video editor page, which lists paid plans from $9 a month billed yearly and $19 billed monthly; its auto subtitle page says Creator starts at $20 a month. Check the pricing page for Pro and Studio in your currency.

Choosing for Your Kind of Video

Talking heads, podcasts and tutorials. If most of your video is one person speaking, VEED is built for it. Record in the browser, clean the take with Magic Cut, fix eye contact and audio, cut by editing the transcript, and subtitle it in the language your audience speaks. You keep every cut in your hands.

Short-form from many clips. If you shoot several clips on your phone and need a Reel, TikTok or Short out of them, Shorty does the part VEED leaves to you: choosing the best moments across all of them, putting B-roll in place, framing every shot for vertical and timing captions and music. You review a finished video instead of building one.

A style you want to copy. If you already know what the video should feel like because you have seen it, upload it to Shorty as the reference. VEED’s pages don’t describe copying an edit from a video; you build the style yourself with its templates, subtitle styles and effects.

Switching. Projects don’t move between the two, only rendered video. Moving to Shorty, download a VEED video you liked as an MP4 and upload it as the reference, so your next edit keeps the style. Moving to VEED, upload your clips to a new project. You can also use both: cut the Reel in Shorty, then bring the MP4 into VEED to translate the subtitles or make a dubbed version.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Shorty or VEED better for short-form video?

For short videos cut from several clips, Shorty: it chooses the shots, places B-roll, frames every shot for vertical and adds captions, music and effects, then renders the edit. VEED is faster for a single talking-head clip you want to clean up and edit yourself, with Magic Cut, transcript editing and auto subtitles. If you need subtitles in other languages or a dubbed version, VEED is the better fit.

Do Shorty and VEED have free plans?

VEED does: the free plan includes the editor, a one-time try of each AI editing tool and 10 minutes of auto subtitles a month, with 720p exports that carry a watermark. Shorty doesn’t; its plans start at $19 a month, or $13 a month billed annually, with every editing tool on every plan.

Can I give either tool a video to copy?

In Shorty, yes. Upload it as the reference, or pick one from Discovery, and Shorty follows its pacing, shot structure, text and color with your own footage. VEED’s pages don’t describe uploading a video to copy its edit; you build the look with its templates, subtitle styles and effects.

How much does an AI edit cost on each?

On Shorty Creator, an edit uses about 500 credits on Auto, about $2.16, or about 100 on GPT 6 Luna, about 43 cents, and Shorty shows the estimate before you start. On VEED, the AI editing tools such as Magic Cut, Clean Audio and AI B-roll are listed as included on paid plans, which VEED’s video editor page puts from $19 a month per editor; its AI credits go to generations such as AI video, voice and translation.

Can I edit on a timeline in Shorty?

No. Shorty has no timeline, so there are no frame-exact trims, masks or keyframes. You change the edit by selecting a title, object or moment in the preview and describing the change. If you want to move every clip yourself, VEED’s timeline and transcript editing are built for that.

What happens after I cancel?

On Shorty, you cancel in your Stripe billing settings and the plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for. On VEED, you open Workspace Billing and turn off auto-renewal; you keep premium features until the end of the billing cycle, and cancelling does not produce a refund.

Clean up the talk in VEED, cut the video in Shorty, or use both. Go make something.
