Subtitle Downloads, Damaged-File Checks and More

Your captions can now leave the video with you. Today you can download a captioned edit’s words as a subtitle file, ready for any platform or player that takes one. We also made uploads and saved edits sturdier, so a damaged file or an interruption costs you less.

Download Subtitles as SRT or VTT

Open a finished edit with spoken captions and choose Subtitles, then Download SRT or Download VTT. The file uses the same words and timing as the captions in your video, grouped into short lines that are easy to read.

Upload it next to your video wherever caption files are supported, so viewers can switch captions on or off. Only speech goes into the file. Titles and other on-screen text stay in the video.

Damaged Files, Caught Early

Shorty now checks that every upload can be read in full before analysis starts. If a clip was cut short or damaged on the way, Shorty names it and offers Replace file, so you can swap in the complete original or remove it without losing your brief or your other clips.

More in This Update

Analysis keeps its progress

If footage analysis is interrupted, Shorty keeps every clip it has already finished and carries on with the rest, instead of starting over.

Saved edits open reliably

Playback and Request changes are ready while the timeline is still loading. If a video stalls, Shorty retries it and offers Retry playback.

Good to know

Why don’t I see Subtitles on my edit?

The menu appears when your cut has spoken captions. Edits with captions turned off, or with titles but no speech, have no subtitle file to download.

Which format should I choose?

SRT is the most widely accepted subtitle format. VTT is the web standard, used by most browser video players. Both carry the same lines and timing.

Download the subtitles, post the video, and let everyone follow along.
