ChatGPT can plan an edit, write the brief and answer questions about your footage. To cut, caption and render the clips, it needs a video editor it can call. Shorty connects to ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor and Codex through the Model Context Protocol (MCP) over Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in, so the assistant can upload footage, start an edit and bring back the result.
Connect Shorty to ChatGPT
These are the ChatGPT steps from Shorty’s MCP page.
- Copy the Shorty endpoint: https://mcp.shortyedit.com/mcp.
- In ChatGPT Settings, enable Developer mode.
- Open Plugins, press +, name the connection Shorty and paste the full /mcp URL.
- Complete the Shorty sign-in when it opens. A free Shorty account is created the first time you authorize; no API keys are needed.
- Add the connection from the tools menu in a chat and ask ChatGPT to open Shorty Studio.

Edit in Shorty Studio without leaving the chat
Ask ChatGPT to open Shorty Studio and the Shorty editor opens inside the conversation, with Discovery references, your footage, your edits and the revision box in one place. Pick a reference, add clips and send. ChatGPT builds the edit with Shorty and you watch it render in the chat.
To revise, select a title or a clip in the edit and say what should change. Opening Studio never uses credits; an edit uses credits from your Shorty plan, the same as on shortyedit.com.

Your Shorty sign-in stays in your browser
Signing in opens Shorty in your own browser, where you use Google or email as usual. Studio connects as soon as you finish, and your Shorty sign-in is never handed to the chat. Use the same Shorty account you connected to ChatGPT.
Ask ChatGPT for the edit you want
Once Shorty is connected, write the brief to ChatGPT the way you would to an editor: what the clips are, how long the video should be, the format and the style.

Other assistants use the same connector
Claude, Claude Code, Cursor and other MCP clients that support Streamable HTTP with OAuth connect to the same endpoint. In Claude, add it as a custom connector; in Claude Code, run claude mcp add --transport http shorty https://mcp.shortyedit.com/mcp.
Where it fits and where it does not
It fits when you already work in ChatGPT and want your own footage edited without switching apps, or want ChatGPT to direct an edit and handle revisions by message.
ChatGPT does not edit the video itself; Shorty renders it. The connection is added as a custom connection in Developer mode, so if your ChatGPT workspace does not allow custom connections, use Shorty directly at shortyedit.com with the same account.
