Compare the work you keep
Shorty publishes this guide and is one of the options discussed. The linked product documentation was reviewed on 5 October 2026. This is workflow guidance, not a measured speed or quality ranking. A tool can offer both automatic decisions and detailed manual controls.
| Workflow | Useful starting point | Work you retain |
|---|---|---|
| AI-assisted timeline | Footage needing precise sequencing, layers or finishing | Operate and review the editable sequence; choose which AI operations to apply |
| Transcript editing | An interview, explanation or other spoken recording | Choose the argument, check word removals and refine visual cuts |
| Brief-directed assembly | Several clips and a clear intended result | Supply direction, inspect the draft and request specific revisions |
| Template production | An approved layout with repeatable text and media slots | Maintain the layout and check every populated version |
A timeline can also make an automatic first cut
Adobe documents Text-Based Editing in Premiere: selecting and rearranging transcript text changes the sequence, which can then be refined on the timeline. Its AI Assistant beta also supports first-cut work in editable sequences. CapCut documents a Long video to shorts workflow that selects excerpts and returns clips you can edit further.
Compare the operation you actually need. Extracting moments from an interview is different from assembling a product story from several camera clips. Shorty takes supplied footage plus a brief or optional reference and returns a rendered cut. Descript combines transcript editing, AI assistance and visual editing controls.

Measure accepted output, including corrections
An automatic draft can save assembly work while creating a new review task. Watch the entire cut, verify the required shots and check captions against the recording. For speech-led videos, listen across removed pauses: grammatical text can still produce an awkward audible join.
Use one representative assignment in each candidate workflow. For example, request a twenty-second product demonstration from your own clips, then replace the opening shot while keeping the approved ending and title. Record preparation, review and finishing effort separately from rendering time. The useful result is the version you can approve.
Test the change that is hardest to explain
Written revisions work well when the desired change is clear: start with the close-up, remove the repeated demonstration or keep the exact supplied ending. A timeline is valuable when a client needs a title to land on a particular frame, a mask to follow an object or several layers to change independently.
Shorty supports written revisions and targeted changes to editable elements, but it does not provide the full control surface of a professional timeline. Before choosing, try the most exact revision your actual client or team is likely to request. Confirm both that it succeeds and that the approved parts remain intact.
Keep editing and generating new imagery separate
Cutting, rearranging and reframing existing footage preserve a different kind of evidence from generating additional frames. Adobe’s Generative Extend creates new material at a clip boundary; its Generative media tool can create video or sound effects from prompts. Treat those outputs as newly generated assets requiring their own review.
For a product demonstration, confirm that the delivered action was actually captured. If the source lacks an essential shot, arrange a new capture or explicitly decide whether a generated illustration is appropriate. Shorty’s supplied-footage workflow does not invent a missing demonstration.

Agree on the handoff before choosing the editor
A finished MP4 and an editable project satisfy different briefs. Importing Shorty’s rendered MP4 into another editor gives you a finished video clip; it does not reconstruct the original source tracks, text layers or edit decisions. Keep the source files if another editor may need to rebuild part of the sequence.
Generated media may need preparation before a project handoff too. Adobe documents Render and Replace for Generative Extend clips in workflows such as Project Manager and exchanges with other applications. Confirm the destination’s supported interchange format and open a small test sequence there before transferring the full job.
For recurring work, include usage credits, repeated generations, export limits, premium assets and review time in the comparison. Verify current plan terms at checkout. Choose the workflow that gets your specific assignment through revision and delivery at an acceptable total cost.
