Choose a story before choosing effects
A folder of unrelated clips is not yet a short video. Pick a single sequence: a problem and solution, a before and after, a useful tip or a small event story. Decide which shot explains the subject fastest. A clear opening often matters more to comprehension than applying more transitions. Shorty can plan an edit, but source selection still shapes what is possible.
Prepare footage for a vertical crop
Shorty supports a 9:16 canvas as well as other aspect ratios. When choosing clips for a vertical edit, check that faces, products and on-screen text remain visible when the frame narrows. If a key action happens at the far edge of a landscape clip, include another angle. A crop cannot recover something outside the source frame.
Direct the first cut
Example: “Make a vertical recap of this café visit. Open on the finished drink, move through ordering and preparation, and finish on the table scene. Keep the person and drink visible. Use short, clean cuts and preserve any useful spoken context.” A reference can clarify the desired pace; a written brief is enough if you do not have one.
Inspect captions, sound and framing
Read captions against the actual speech, especially names, technical terms and numbers. Check whether caption placement hides an important object. Listen for abrupt audio changes and confirm that any soundtrack is permitted for your intended use. Watch the whole exported video on the device you expect viewers to use. Fix misleading edits before posting.
Publish and learn from the result
Download the MP4 and use the platform’s upload flow. Shorty does not automatically post the video to your social accounts.
