Speed Ramps, Text Plates, Exact Durations and More

This update is about craft. Shorty can now ramp a shot’s speed, reach for a catalog of animated text, choose type that fits what your video is about and deliver exactly the length you ask for.

Speed Ramps

A shot can now speed up and slow down smoothly within itself, the way creators ramp into a moment and out of it again. Ramps come with whip transitions to wrap them, so a ramped cut lands the way it would in a hand-made edit.

Text Plates and Animated Type

Shorty has a new catalog of more than 60 animated text treatments to draw on: lower thirds, price tags, REC badges, tickers, quotes, tape and sticker labels, neon, glitch and typewriter effects, and letter-by-letter entrances.

Exactly the Length You Pick

Choose a duration in the composer and your edit is now exactly that long, to the frame, anywhere from 3 to 60 seconds. Leave it on Auto, and Shorty picks the length that suits your footage.

Type that fits the subject

Shorty now chooses typography for what your video is about: high-contrast serifs for fashion, a heavy grotesque with large, tight numbers for money, lowercase monospace for tech, condensed capitals for a building site. Your brief and your reference still come first.

Slow motion that keeps its frames

Shorty used to bring every upload down to 30 frames per second. Footage shot at 60 or 120 fps now keeps its extra frames, so slow-motion beats use real frames from your camera instead of repeated ones.

Good to know

How long can an edit with an exact duration be?

From 3 to 60 seconds. On Auto, Shorty chooses the length for you.

Do I need high-frame-rate footage for slow motion?

No, but footage shot at 60 or 120 fps gives slow-motion beats real frames to work with.

Small details, done on purpose.
