This update is about getting the cut right the first time, and hearing from you when it isn’t. Rate any finished cut in one tap, hear speakers finish their sentences, and get the length you asked for. Behind the scenes, edits now recover from more problems on their own.
Rate a Finished Cut
Every finished cut now has a thumbs up and a thumbs down at the top. Pick one and Share feedback opens, with quick reasons like “Picked the right moments” or “Speech cut mid-sentence” and room for details.
Rating never changes your video, so say what you like freely. When something needs fixing, a thumbs down points you to Request changes. Every rating goes to the team building Shorty.
Speech That Ends Where Sentences Do
Cuts in talking clips now land between words instead of in the middle of one. Where the timeline has room, Shorty lets the speaker finish the sentence, and if a cut still stops someone mid-thought, Shorty takes another pass before delivering.
This works with captions turned off, too. A “no subtitles” brief still gets clean speech cuts.
The Length You Ask For
Write a length in your brief, like “exactly 30 seconds,” “20–30 seconds” or “at least 15 seconds,” and Shorty treats it as a target to hit, not a hint. If your footage can’t honestly fill that length, Shorty says so instead of quietly delivering a shorter cut.
Fewer Failed Edits
If the director behind Auto stalls, is unavailable or turns down ordinary footage by mistake, your edit now restarts with a backup director instead of failing.
When an edit does fail for a technical reason, the credits held for it are released, so you don’t pay for our problems. And if one change in your queue fails, the changes waiting behind it now apply to your last finished cut instead of failing too.
Good to know
Does a thumbs down fix my video?
No. Ratings help us improve Shorty and never change your video. To fix a cut, use Request changes and say what should be different.
Tell us how the cut feels. We’re listening, one thumb at a time.
