The format you pick now decides the shape of your edit. Three new shapes join the picker, rewinds play truly backwards, and every page in Shorty has its own address.
Three New Formats
The format picker now offers Classic 4:3, Portrait 3:4 and Cinematic 21:9, alongside the presets for Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, Instagram Story, Instagram Feed, YouTube, LinkedIn and X.
Your choice now travels with the edit and sets the canvas. Pick 21:9 and you get a true 21:9 video, framed for that shape. Working from a reference? The picker starts at the reference’s own shape, and you can switch it before you edit.
True Reverse Playback
Some of the best edits rewind: a move plays forward, snaps back and plays again. Shorty used to approximate that by replaying the shot forward. Now, when an edit calls for a rewind, Shorty plays the clip truly backwards, frame by frame.
It also recognizes forward-and-back bounce beats in a reference, so that move is in its vocabulary when it builds your cut.
Every Page Has a Link
Discovery, Footages and Edits are now real pages with their own addresses. Bookmark your edits, share a link to a page, reload without landing back on the home screen, and use the back button the way you expect.
More in This Update
A smoother Edits page on phones
Your Edits page no longer downloads every cut in full. Tiles stream only what they play, so a long wall of edits stays smooth on a phone.
Watch the timeline build
On larger screens, a timeline under the progress steps now shows your edit being assembled until the finished cut arrives.
No frozen frames at cuts
Fixed an issue where a clip could hold on its last frame right before a cut.
Good to know
What if the format I pick differs from my reference?
Shorty edits for the format you picked and frames every shot for that canvas.
Which formats can I choose?
9:16 for Reels, TikTok, Shorts and Stories; 4:5 for Instagram Feed; 1:1 for LinkedIn; 16:9 for YouTube and X; plus Classic 4:3, Portrait 3:4 and Cinematic 21:9.
